"Computer guy" at Koala-ty keeps customers connected
CHAMBERSBURG - Owner Danny Young answers the door at Koala-ty Computers with a smile and an offer of a cup of coffee or something to drink.
He started Koala-ty Computers after seeing the need for a "computer guy" people felt comfortable talking to. People want a reliable, knowledgeable source to tell them in a no-nonsense way what is available to them based on their needs, rather than just offering a few stock choices or what's on sale, Young said.
Started part time in January 1997, Koala-ty Computers, 109 W. King St., has gained popularity through its customer service, which includes helping customers by appointment. Young saw the opportunity to go full time in June 2001 after being laid off at Frick Co. in Waynesboro, where he had worked for 24 years.
Young explains what each component part does in relation to other parts of the computer and how they work together. Each machine is custom built at Koala-ty Computers to suit individual needs.
All other traditional computer services are offered, including repairs and upgrades of all brand names. Individual component parts are stocked for sale.
Local Internet dial-up service is available through Zoomlynx.com, which is run with 12 Koala-ty Computers systems.
Koala-ty Computers also has an Internet Web site (www.koala-ty.com) which many customers use as their home page when they go online. The Web page is set up with links to local news, weather, sports, financial information and "kid safe" sites.
Free limited local delivery and setup is available. When the new system is delivered, it is set up and a few practical lessons are given so buyers can start using their computers right away.
A spiral-bound notebook in the showroom contains the names of previous buyers, who provide references about the systems supplied by Koala-ty Computers.
Koala-ty Computers is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. The phone number is (717) 263-7804.
